Melbourne CBD to Avalon Airport, Door to Door
Fifty-five kilometres, about 45 minutes, toll-free. There is no train to the terminal — which is exactly why a booked car makes sense on this route.
Fifty-five kilometres, and no train at the end of it
Avalon Airport is about 55 kilometres south-west of the Melbourne CBD, out past Werribee on the way to Geelong. The drive takes around 45 minutes over the West Gate Bridge and along the Princes Freeway, and the route is toll-free. In peak hours, allow up to 75 minutes.
Avalon is the airport where getting there is the actual problem. There is no train to the terminal. The bus runs to a timetable that may or may not suit a 6am departure, and a taxi from the city is a long, open-ended fare. A private transfer is not a luxury on this route so much as the sensible option — one car, one price, and a departure time you choose.
Your quote is fixed before you travel and includes GST.
Every Avalon transfer includes
Flight tracking
Give us your flight number. Your driver’s timing follows the aircraft on the way back, and a delay does not change the quote.
Meet and greet with a name board
Avalon has one small terminal, which makes it an easy airport to be met at. Your driver will be waiting inside with your name.
90 minutes of complimentary waiting
Ninety minutes on international arrivals and sixty on domestic, measured from when your aircraft lands.
Free child seats
Capsules and boosters supplied and fitted at no cost.
A fixed all-inclusive quote
GST included, and the Princes Freeway route is toll-free. No meter, no surge, and no distance surprise at the end of a 55-kilometre run.
24 hours, seven days
Avalon’s schedule includes early departures. So do we.
Why this route in particular
At 55 kilometres, Avalon is more than twice the distance of Tullamarine from the city — and unlike Tullamarine, it does not have a dense supply of airport-focused transport competing to serve it. That means three things in practice.
Timing is the whole game
- Miss the bus and the next option may be two hours away.
- A booked car leaves when you decide.
Luggage matters more
- A 45-minute drive with four people and four full-size cases in a sedan is a miserable start to a holiday.
- Book the right vehicle for the bags, not just the head count.
And the return leg is the one people forget. Landing at Avalon at 10pm with no pre-booked transport is a genuinely awkward position — we recommend booking both directions at the same time.
Vehicles for a 55-kilometre run

Geelong, the Bellarine and the Great Ocean Road
Avalon sits between Melbourne and Geelong, which makes it a natural starting point for the coast. If you are flying into Avalon and heading west, we can collect you at the terminal and go straight on rather than driving you into the city first — down to Geelong, around the Bellarine, or onto the Great Ocean Road for the day.
The same works in reverse: a day on the coast that ends at Avalon for an evening flight, instead of doubling back to Melbourne.
Avalon Airport transfers, answered
How far is Avalon Airport from Melbourne CBD?
About 55 kilometres. The drive takes around 45 minutes via the West Gate Bridge and the Princes Freeway, or up to about 75 minutes in peak traffic.
Is the drive to Avalon Airport tolled?
The Princes Freeway route is toll-free. In any case, your quote is fixed and all-inclusive, so tolls and GST are never added afterwards.
Do you also transfer to Avalon from Geelong, Werribee or the Bellarine?
Yes. Avalon is closer to Geelong than to Melbourne, and we cover the whole corridor. Give us the pickup address and we will quote it.
Can you meet a flight arriving at Avalon late at night?
Yes. We operate 24 hours a day with no night surcharge, and we track your flight so the car is there when you land.
How much free waiting time is included?
Ninety minutes on international arrivals and sixty minutes on domestic, measured from when your aircraft lands rather than from the scheduled time.
Should I book the return trip at the same time?
We recommend it. Avalon has limited transport at the terminal outside scheduled bus times, and a pre-booked return means a driver waiting for you rather than a search for one.
Can you take a group of eight or more to Avalon?
Yes. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter seats up to eleven. Larger groups can travel across two vehicles on one booking.
Can you take us to the Great Ocean Road straight from Avalon?
Yes. Avalon is a convenient starting point for the coast. We can collect you at the terminal and begin the day from there rather than driving into Melbourne first.
